History of Technology in Mathematics

Calculators make it easier for students to think about and solve problems in multiple dimensions

  1. That is a good picture! I really like it and it clearly gets your point across. I agree with you that graphing calculators do help us in many ways to do many things that we can't possibly do by hand, such as graphing a three-dimensional equations. I think that knowing how to draw it by hand and imagine what it looks like is also important. We may not always have a graphing calculator with us. If we rely too much on the technology to do it for us, then it defeats the purpose of learning how to graph conics in three dimensional space. We shall have a basic understanding of what a cone looks like first, and then use graphing calculators to strengthen our impression of what it looks like. But anyway, it is a clear, detailed, and perfect picture that gets your point across.

  2. I love this, calculators make it easier for students to see and understand 3 dimensional and 2 dimensional graphs. The use of calculators make it easier for students to see what it going on compared to trying to draw an accurate graph on paper. Calculators make the graph drawn perfect without any errors, which can happen on paper. I love your caption and picture choice.
